On 28 August 2025, H.E. Ambassador Shi Zhongjun, Secretary General of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) paid his visit to the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) and held discussions with its senior management team on media and information cooperation between Malaysia and China, as well as between ASEAN and China.
SG Shi expressed gratitude to Bernama for its long-standing support for ACC’s work. He outlined the ACC’s key initiatives and efforts in promoting media and information cooperation between ASEAN and China, stating that the ACC is committed to fulfilling its role as “a one-stop information and activities centre”, and is willing to build more diverse and extensive platforms for exchange and cooperation between media institutions from ASEAN Member States and China. He welcomed Bernama’s continued active participation in ACC flagship events such as the ASEAN-China Media Cooperation Forum and the ASEAN-China Week, and encouraged in-depth coverage of ASEAN-China friendship and cooperation stories which would further contribute to cementing public support for the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Ms. Nurul Afida, Chief Executive Officer of Bernama, warmly welcomed SG Shi and highly commended the important and unique role played by the ACC in strengthening cooperation between ASEAN and Chinese media organizations. She reiterated Bernama’s willingness to maintain close interaction with the ACC, support and actively participate in its activities, and explore more collaborative projects in areas such as news exchange, journalist visits, AI technology, capacity building and training, etc. Bernama also looks forward to engaging in broader exchanges and cooperation with media from ASEAN countries and China through platforms like Network of ACC Media Partners (NAMP), working together to promote mutual understanding and affinity between the peoples of two sides.
