The ACC Committed to Advancing Lancang-Mekong Tourism Cooperation

On 27 November, the 2024 Lancang-Mekong Tourism Cities Cooperation Alliance (LMTCCA) Exchange Activity was held in Chongqing of China. More than 200 representatives of the tourism authorities of the six Lancang-Mekong countries, the Embassies and Consulates General of the five Mekong countries in China, 50 LMTCCA members, international organizations, tourism-related enterprises and media agencies participated in the event. Centering on the theme of “Lancang-Mekong Rivers, Enduring Ties”, the invited dignitaries and guests had an in-depth exchange of views on deepening cultural exchanges and tourism cooperation among Lancang-Mekong countries, and exploring ways forward to enhance regional tourism cooperation.

Vice Minister Lu Yingchuan of Culture and Tourism of China, Vice Mayor Shang Kui of Chongqing, Deputy Mayor Huot Hay of Phnom Penh of Cambodia, and Former Director Yuthasak Supasorn of the Tourism Authority of Thailand attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Director Sun Yi of General Affairs and Coordination of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech on future prospects for tourism development in the Lancang-Mekong region.

Sun Yi briefed the audience on the role played by the ACC in implementing outcomes of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Leaders' Meetings and promoting tourism cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between China and Mekong countries. He expressed the ACC's readiness to provide continued support to the development of LMTCCA, and highlighted the ACC's upcoming plans to boost the recovery of tourism and growth of cultural and tourism industries in Lancang-Mekong countries.

The LMTCCA is a non-governmental and non-profit international organization supported by the tourism authorities of China and the five Mekong countries, with city members as its main players and promoting inter-city cultural exchanges and tourism cooperation as its priority mandate, so as to secure lasting people-to-people amity and connectivity in the Lancang-Mekong region.
