On 21 October 2025, the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), in collaboration with Beijing Municipal Administrative Center Management Committee, Tongzhou District People’s Government, China International Communications Group Asia-Pacific, co-hosted the ASEAN-China (Beijing Municipal Administrative Center) Trade and Investment Promotion Conference with the theme “Join Hands for Green Development and Build a Bright Future.” The Conference aimed to deepen practical cooperation between Beijing Municipal Administrative Center and ASEAN countries in the field of green and sustainable development through policy exchange and dialogue.

Secretary General Shi Zhongjun of the ACC, Deputy Mayor Tang Wenhong of Beijing Municipality, President Chang Bo of China International Communications Group, Ambassador U Tin Maung Swe of Myanmar to China, Ambassador Dato’ Norman Muhamad of Malaysia to China, Ambassador Chatchai Viriyavejakul of Thailand to China, and Ambassador Maubere Lorosae da Silva Horta of Timor-Leste to China attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Nearly 300 participants, including diplomats of ASEAN Mmember Sstates in China, Beijing municipal officials, as well as representatives of business associations and enterprises from both ASEAN and China took part in the event to explore ways to enhance green development collaboration.

Secretary General Shi Zhongjun noted that ASEAN and China are embarking on green transformation as an inevitable path to combat the climate change and also a new engine for economic and social development. With shared values, both parties have unique advantages in developing green economy and a broad prospect of green industry cooperation. The ACC stands ready to support Beijing Municipality and Tongzhou in participating in broader cooperation between ASEAN and China.

Vice Mayor Tang Wenhong remarked that Beijing Municipal Administrative Center, bearing national strategic significance and leading green development initiatives, will further strengthen industry partnership and project cooperation with ASEAN countries, particularly in key areas such as new energy, energy conservation and environment protection. President Chang Bo stated that China International Communication Group will further leverage its comprehensive communication strengths and enhance collaboration with the ACC as well as media outlets, think tanks, and cultural institutions across ASEAN to provide robust public opinion guidance and intellectual support for the ASEAN-China trade and economic cooperation.

Ambassador Dato’ Norman Muhamad underscored China has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years while Malaysia is well placed to work closely with China in further enhancing connectivity with a particular focus on deepening ties in human capital development and the use of artificial intelligence. Ambassador U Tin Maung Swe proposed to strengthen ASEAN-China joint research in information technology and green innovation. Ambassador Chatchai Viriyavejakul pointed out both parties should fully and effectively implement the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area Version 3.0 to unlock new opportunities and expand market access across emerging sectors. Ambassador Maubere Lorosae da Silva Horta stated Timor-Leste stands ready to work alongside ASEAN Mmember Sstates to enhance cooperation with China in sustainable investment, energy conservation, emission reduction, and other green development areas.

Standing Committee Member and Vice District Mayor Mr. Wu Kong’an of Tongzhou District presented the trade and investment environment as well as development opportunities in Beijing Municipal Administrative Center to the attendees. The Conference also featured sessions including signing ceremony for ASEAN-Tongzhou enterprises, business matching, and green development case stocktaking, effectively facilitating practical cooperation among enterprises from both sides.

In the afternoon, Secretary General Shi Zhongjun led ASEAN diplomats on a visit to Canal Business District, Beijing Library, new energy enterprises at Zhangjiawan Design Town, and New Everbright Center. He encouraged ASEAN and Beijing Municipal Administrative Center to expand trade and economic exchanges and cooperation while advancing green development initiatives.
