On 23 October 2018, the delegation of “Chinese Media Reporting Trip to ASEAN”, headed by Secretary-General Chen Dehai of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), visited and held discussions with Sin Chew Daily and The Star newspaper in Malaysia.
Mr. Koo Cheng, Executive Director, SCMC/ CEO of Sin Chew Daily and Mme Esther Ng Sek Yee, Chief Content Officer of The Star gave respective briefing on the development of their newspapers and the business performance, and expressed wish to enhance exchanges and cooperation with Chinese media by learning from each other’s business experience and exploring potentials for cooperation.
Secretary-General Chen Dehai briefed on the work of ACC and believed that the trip would help Chinese media to have an in-depth understanding of Malaysia, and through Malaysia to have a further perception of ASEAN. Saying that the year 2019 is designated as ASEAN-China Year of Media Exchange, he hoped the two sides would strengthen exchanges and communication and jointly push forward the in-depth development of ASEAN-China strategic partnership.
The media delegation had animated interaction and heated discussion with the Malaysian side on such topics as the survival of the traditional media in the new era, ways to achieve mutual complementarity between traditional and new media, and ways for future cooperation.
