China (Jilin) -Vietnam Trade and Investment Forum Held in Ho Chi Minh City

On 2 August 2018, China (Jilin）-Vietnam Trade and Investment Forum was held in Ho Chi Minh city. The forum was co-organized by People’s Government of Jilin Province, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Mr. Bayanqolu, the Party Secretary of CPC Jilin Provincial Committee, Mr. Vo Tan Thanh, Vice Chairman of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Wu Jun, the Chinese Consul-General in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Guo Chuanwei, Director of Trade and Investment Division of ACC, addressed the Forum. Around 200 representatives from chambers of commerce enterprises and media of both China and Vietnam participated in the event.

Mr. Bayanqolu said in his speech that the friendly relationship between China and Vietnam, which embodies the unremitting efforts and wisdom of several generations, needed to be cherished and maintained by both sides. At present, China and Vietnam are both at a critical stage of reform and development. It is timely for Jilin Province and Vietnam to deepen economic and trade cooperation. He hoped the two sides would seize the opportunity of jointly building the Belt and Road to uplift the bilateral cooperation to a new stage through further taping the potential.

Chinese Consul-General Wu Jun encouraged Jilin enterprises to seek cooperation with their Vietnamese counterparts. He pledged that the Chinese Consulate-General would spare no efforts in providing assistance and support for the cooperation of the two countries.

Mr. Guo Chuanwei said that Vietnam is an important member of ASEAN along the “Belt and Road”. China and Vietnam have their own comparative advantages in economy and are complimentary to each other. There is great potential for economic and trade cooperation. The two sides should seize the moment, build on the momentum, and actively participate in the building of the Belt and Road to make more contributions to enhancing Vietnam-China and ASEAN-China economic and trade cooperation. ACC will continue to make efforts to promote ASEAN-China and Vietnam-China practical cooperation in economy and trade.

At the forum, Vice Chairman Vo Tan Thanh of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry made presentation on Vietnam’s investment environment and preferential policies. About 100 Vietnamese enterprises had exchanges and business matching with Jilin First Automobile Works (FAW) Group Corporation, CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicle Co., Ltd., Jilin Yuntianhua Agricultural Development Co., Ltd., Hongda Hi-tech Group Co., Ltd., in areas of smart manufacturing, modern agriculture, medicine and health, electronic information, tourism etc. A batch of strategic cooperation agreements were signed afterwards in order to carry out several major projects and complete those underway.
