ACC Secretary-General Attended the Traditional Medicine and Health Professional Education Forum

On 1 August 2016, the Traditional Medicine and Health Professional Education Forum themed “Attune to the Needs, Integrate and Develop” was successfully held in Guiyang during the 9th China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week(CAECW). The Forum, co-sponsored by ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), National Chinese Medicine Teaching Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education, Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Guiyang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine was participated by H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ACC, Ms. Pan Xiaolin, Deputy Secretary-General of Guizhou Provincial People’s Government, Dr. Ma Sandra, Deputy Coordinator of SEAMEO Tropical Medicine and Public Health Network (SEAMEO TROPMED Network), principals of traditional Chinese medicine colleges and universities of China, experts, scholars, representatives of companies and doctors in the medical field totaling around 40, and chaired by Mr. Liuwen, Vice President of Guiyang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

In her remarks, Secretary-General Yang Xiuping said that, traditional medicine and health professional education is one of the new angles that ACC has been actively engaged in. The rapid development of cooperation in recent years and the rich traditional medicine resources in both ASEAN countries and China have provided plenty of opportunities for ASEAN and China. Exploring ways to further each others’ potentials through meaningful, and mutually beneficial engagements, enhancing the exchanges and cooperation of traditional medicines and cultivating more talents will contribute significantly to the development of ASEAN countries and China, as well as the welfare of the people from the two sides. She also stated that, ACC is delighted to contribute to the collaboration between SEAMEO TROPMED and its Chinese counterparts to co-sponsor this Forum. She hoped that this Forum could provide a platform to further deepen traditional medicine exchanges and establish the networking of relevant education institutions between ASEAN and China, so as to move forward the cooperation in this regard to a new level.

Experts and principals of medical colleges and universities from Beijing, Tianjin, Chengdu, Guizhou, Hongkong and South Korea as well as representatives of SEAMEO TROPMED network gave their remarks respectively and exchanged their views on the demand and development of traditional Chinese medicine, systematic Chinese medicine and human health, theory and application of traditional Chinese medicine, application of traditional medicine of Southeast Asian countries in health education, etc. All the participants expressed their keen interest and hopeful in building contacts and enhancing collaborations with each other. The proposal themed “Based on Confucius Institute, Integrate Chinese Medicine into Modern Medicine to Promote Sustainable Development” was read out by Dr. Zhang Yanjun, Dean of Studies of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and received a unanimous approval at the Forum.
