On 26 and 27 January 2016, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) Secretary-General H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping met with Awang Muhammad Norshafiee bin Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, Deputy Permanent Secretary  (IT, E-Government & Industry) of Prime Minister’s Office of Brunei and Hajah Hasnah Haji Ibrahim, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDE).

Secretary-General Yang briefed on ASEAN-China economic and trade relations and ACC’s work in the areas of trade and investment. She said that trade and investment were ACC’s priority of work. ACC had actively publicized the relevant policies of ASEAN-China FTA, promoted industrial production cooperation and business matching, and facilitated ASEAN products to explore the Chinese market. Last year, ACC successfully organized Chinese trade and investment missions to visit Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines and Viet Nam, assisted ASEAN enterprises to attend the China-ASEAN EXPO and relevant exhibitions, and prepared to set up ASEAN Products Trade Centres in Tianjin and other cities in China. 2016 marked the 25th anniversary of Brunei-China diplomatic relations. ACC planned to organize investment missions to visit Brunei and explore business opportunities with local counterparts. She hoped that the Brunei side would render support and assistance to ACC.

Both Deputy Permanent Secretary Muhammad Norshafiee and Acting Chief Executive Officer Hajah Hasnah commended ACC’s hard work in enhancing ASEAN-China trade and investment ties, and introduced Brunei’s relevant policies and its cooperation with Chinese enterprises. They said that Brunei was speeding up adjusting economic development mode and attracting more foreign investment. Brunei welcomed China to participate in cooperation such as industrial park construction, city planning and rebuilding, halal food production and certification, etc. It was hoped that ACC would encourage more Chinese enterprises to invest in Brunei. They would like to work closely with ACC to ensure the full success of relevant promotion activities.
