On 3 August 2015, the Kick-off Meeting of the Association of China-ASEAN Education Training Centres and Programme Promotion was held in Guiyang, Guizhou Province. H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), H.E. Mr. Soegeng Rahardjo, Ambassador of Indonesia to China, Mr. Liu Baoli, Executive Secretary-General of the Secretariat of the Organizing Committee of the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW), Ms. Chen Yinghui, Deputy Director-General of International Department of the Ministry of Education (MOE), Prof. Zheng Qiang, President of Guizhou University, as well as over 200 Presidents of universities, experts and scholars from ASEAN and China, participated in the meeting. The launching ceremony of the Association’s Website and the Report of ASEAN Development Research, as well as the MoU signing ceremony of some cooperation projects were held during the meeting.
The meeting, organized by Guizhou University, was one of the activities of the 8th CAECW. There were altogether 30 members (universities and education institutes) of the Association of China-ASEAN Education Training Centres. Prof. Jiang Ruiping, Vice President of Institute of Diplomacy was appointed as the first Chairman of the Governing Board of the Association. Prof. Jiang Ruiping introduced in his remarks the operation of the Board, and hoped that each member could pool suggestions and make efforts to use the Association as a platform for exchanges and cooperation among the member organizations. He stated that the purpose of the establishment of the Association was to make it a long-term mechanism for China-ASEAN education training cooperation to promote people-to-people exchanges between both sides.
Secretary-General Yang extended warm congratulations for the establishment of the Association of the China-ASEAN Education Training Centres. She expressed in her remarks that China-ASEAN education training cooperation was of great significance for the benefits of enhancing mutual understanding and friendship among the peoples of the two sides. By the end of this year, the ASEAN Community would be fully realized and next year would mark the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations. ASEAN and China cooperation would have a brighter future. ACC would remain committed to supporting the Association of the China-ASEAN Education Training Centres, devote more efforts to facilitate links with Association members and relevant ASEAN organizations, and join hands to promote China-ASEAN cooperation in education training.
Ambassador Soegeng Rahardjo congratulated the Association of the China-ASEAN Education Training Centres. He expressed in his speech that the Association would contribute in fostering highly-qualified talents for the social and economic development of ASEAN Member States, and enhancing the people-to-people exchanges between ASEAN and China by pooling resources together and sharing mutual benefits. He had confidence that China-ASEAN all-round cooperation would constantly deepen.
In their remarks, President Zheng Qiang of Guizhou University and Ms.Chen Yinghui of MOE stated the significance of establishing the Association of the China-ASEAN Education Training Centres, and believed this would promote China-ASEAN education cooperation in training and cultivating talents. They also expressed their heartfelt gratitude to ACC for the active role and support to the Association.
During the meeting, Secretary-General Yang also discussed on promoting ASEAN-China intercollegiate collaboration with Director Yuan Huimin of Foreign Affairs Office of Guizhou Province, Director-General Huo Jiankang of Guizhou Provincial Department of Education, Director-General Cao Xianmo of Hainan Provincial Department of Education, President Zheng Qiang of Guizhou University, President Li Jiajun of Tianjin University, as well as the representatives from education departments of Cambodia and Laos, and listened to their suggestions.
