From 25 June to 4 July 2014, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), in collaboration with the China Central Television (CCTV), organized a 10-day filming in Myanmar by CCTV to promote Myanmar's rich natural resources, tourism attractions and cultural heritages. Both the Government of Myanmar and ACC agreed to take this opportunity to showcase Myanmar’s social and economic progress in the featured TV programs to be aired in China and the world at large. This project is a part of the continued efforts of ACC, since its founding in November 2011, to promote ASEAN Member States in China, and to highlight the importance of further deepening ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership.
The project has been supported by the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, the Chinese Consulate General in Mandalay, Myanmar's Ministry of Hotels and Tourism and the Embassy of Myanmar in Beijing. In his interview with CCTV, H. E. Mr. Yang Houlan, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar expressed his views on how to further develop bilateral relations and mutually beneficial cooperation. Ambassador Yang stressed that China and Myanmar should spare no effort to promote the Comprehensive Strategic Relations of Cooperation, making the two countries to be the good-friends, good partners and good neighbors forever.
The visit and filming also coincided with UNESCO’s decision to include Myanmar’s three Pyu city states -- Beikthano, Hanlin and Sri Kestra to the World Heritage List. H. E. U Htay Aung, the Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism of Myanmar, accepted CCTV’s interview at Sri Kestra. He thanked ACC for its efforts in promoting Myanmar as a favorite destination for Chinese tourists, and expressed his hope of further cooperating with China to improve Myanmar-China connectivity, the level of services and accommodation in Myanmar, human resources training and infrastructure as well. To further support the rapid development of tourism in Myanmar, the Minister also hoped that more Chinese investment could be channeled into hotels and tourism sector in Myanmar.
