ACC Held Student Activity to Commemorate 40th Anniversary of China and Malaysia Relations

Artistic Conception of South Seas - the 40th Anniversary of Establishment of Diplomatic Relationship between China and Malaysia, a student activity organized by the Malaysian Alumni Association of Tsinghua University, co-sponsored by ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) and the Malaysian Embassy in Beijing, was held on 7 June 2014 at the ACC. More than 200 participants attended the event. Mr. Tri Purnajaya, Director of Education, Culture and Tourism Division of ACC, Ms. Dong Li, representative of Tsinghua Alumni Association, Mr. Lim You Rang, Education Counsellor of the Malaysian Embassy, and Mr. Liew Chee Wei, President of Malaysian Alumni Association of Tsinghua University & Artistic Conception of South Seas Working Committee, participated in the event and delivered speeches. The one-day event showcased students' singing and dancing performaces, painting exhibition, as well as seminar on Malaysian art and culture. 

Director Tri Purnajaya stated that ACC was an inter-governmental organization devoted to promoting functional cooperation in trade, investment, education, culture and tourism between ASEAN countries and China, and had achieved many substantial progress. He said that holding the event of Artistic Conception of South Seas, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relationship between Malaysia and China, was beneficial to mutual understanding and friendship. Mr. Purnajaya also said that ACC is always supportive and encouraged to see the development of ASEAN students in China.

President Liew Chee Wei said in his remarks that this year was also a year for peoples from both countries to think about how to create a better future. He hoped that through the artistic work, cultural performances, lectures and photo exhibition of Malaysian history to present artistic conception of South Seas, mutual understanding between the two peoples would be enhanced.

Malaysian students presented wonderful performances with Malaysian characteristics, such as Borneo ethnic dance, Teh tarik performance, guitar playing Malaysian song. In the section of culture salon, Dr. Wilson Yang Zhongyong, President of Sabah Institute of Art (SIA), gave a presentation on “Development and Trend of South Seas’ Art”; Associate Prof. Song Yanpeng of Capital Normal University (CNU) made a presentation on “Malaysian Chinese in the Eyes of Chinese from North China - the perspective of Cultural Interaction”. Through these activities, the audience had a better knowledge about the development and differences of art in the two countries.
